The Opportunity

  • $106,351 - $115,103 (depending on exp.) + 17% super + leave loading
  • Full-time (35 hours week), 12-month fixed term contract
  • Hybrid/Flexible working arrangements

Research Technology Services are a key enabler for researchers. These services include computing, data services and researcher support. Responsibility for these services in the University’s 2025 Strategy sits with the PVC Research Infrastructure as portfolio lead.

The Research Data Experience Project (RDE) will mitigate data risks identified across the University for priority action. A key element of the project is the development and implementation of a Research Data policy suite and supporting guidance.

The Policy Officer will assist in refreshing the current policy suite and extending in specific areas, and implementing processes and resources to support its uptake by UNSW staff. You’ll work closely with RDE project team members, policy leads within UNSW Planning and Performance, stakeholders and subject matter experts, and the wider university community. The Policy Officer reports to Program Manager and has no direct reports.

Who you are

You have a relevant qualification and or experience in policy development or academic research, and can demonstrate the following Skills and Experience: -

  • The development, review, and communication of policies as well as policy management processes in a large organisation.
  • Successful project and resources management.
  • Policy drafting, review, and analysis, through high-level research.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with a range of audiences at all levels.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • High-quality report writing skills with the ability to write for a variety of audiences, with the ability to analyse complex information and produce easy-to-read documentation.
  • Work independently with the capacity to take responsibility, exercise judgement, and proactively address and resolve complex problems as they arise.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, adapt and assimilate information quickly, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
