About the opportunity

The School of Economics at the University of Sydney one of the primary centres for economics in Australia and the broader Asia-Pacific region. School academic staff have varied specialisms and areas of expertise, including economic theory, policy and econometrics.

The School are currently seeking a Communication and Events Officer to produce high quality, timely and effective communications and promotional outcomes for the School, including the creation of a broad range of print and electronic publications that adhere to the University’s brand and style guidelines and are consistent with the strategic priorities of the School, Faculty and University.

The role is responsible for organising and coordinating events for the School including: large scale conferences, public lectures, student events and prizes ceremonies, research-based symposia, guest lectures, seminars and workshops.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • manage the communications, promotions and events for the School
  • develop and maintain websites, produce promotional materials, maintain and support the School’s social media presence
  • provide high level administrative support coordinating academic and professional staff for teaching related initiatives and manages staff involvement in student facing events, such as student information sessions, Open and Info Day, prizes ceremonies, alumni events, short courses and masterclasses

About you

  • tertiary qualifications in communications, or relevant field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • demonstrated ability in the production of a broad range of high quality print and digital communication and promotional materials to support strategic objectives
  • previous experience in the higher education sector
  • extensive knowledge of and experience with current electronic publishing technology, including high level desktop publishing skills in the Adobe Creative Site: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator
  • extensive knowledge of and experience with web authoring, including knowledge of web design, information architecture and search engine optimization
  • high level skills in Interwoven CMS/AEM, Dreamweaver, Flash, HTML, SharePoint.

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. For a continuing position, you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
