About the Role 
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the Chief of Staff at Swinburne University of Technology will play a pivotal role in serving as the principal conduit and driver of action on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor and President. As the portfolio lead of the Office of the Vice Chancellor, the Chief of Staff will act as a key adviser and strategic partner to the Vice Chancellor and Executive Group on matters related to strategic planning, organisational management, external relations, and policy. Additionally, the Chief of Staff will oversee the provision of Council Secretariat services.

Responsibilities:

  • Advise the Vice-Chancellor on day-to-day operations of the portfolio, ensuring efficiency, effectiveness, and optimal use of available resources.
  • Collaborate with the Vice-Chancellor, Council, and Executive Group to facilitate the planning and co-designing of Swinburne's strategic plan '2030' with staff and stakeholders.
  • Serve as a key liaison between the Vice-Chancellor and various stakeholders, both internal and external, to drive actions and initiatives forward.

About You  
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities: 

  • A minimum of five years’ experience as a Chief of Staff or similar position.
  • Demonstrated ability working with confidential and other sensitive information.
  • Strong leadership and management experience.
  • Significant experience representing organisations in each of advocacy, negotiating, and relationship building/management capacities.
  • Outstanding financial and technological acumen with proven experience effectively managing the processes and structures necessary to control significant budgets, resources, and funding.  

Qualifications
  • A postgraduate degree level qualification in a relevant discipline with subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
