The ARC Grant-Funded Researchers (level A) will work to support the theory program of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Dark Matter Particle Physics -

We are seeking to appoint two theoretical physicists who will work within the Adelaide Node of the Centre in close collaboration with other Centre nodes supporting the Centre’s broad theory program in theoretical particle, nuclear and astroparticle physics, with a focus on the physics of dark matter and physics beyond the standard model.

The particle physics group at The University of Adelaide has broad interests in theoretical particle physics, including the collider phenomenology of beyond-the-Standard Model theories (at the LHC and future facilities), model building of these theories, particle astrophysics and cosmological tests of fundamental particle physics. The School of Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences hosts strong groups on the ATLAS, Belle II, IceCube, CTA, HESS, LIGO, SABRE and Pierre Auger experiments. It is also host to the Centre for the Subatomic Structure of Matter (CSSM), which studies all areas of QCD including lattice QCD, hadron structure, the strong interaction, a strong program in nuclear structure, neutron stars and studies of the interaction with dark matter.

Close collaboration between theorists and experimentalists is actively encouraged.

To be successful you will need:

  • PhD or equivalent degree (or thesis submitted) in theoretical particle and/or nuclear physics in an area of relevance to the Centre.
  • A commitment to research excellence in theoretical particle/nuclear physics and a demonstrated publication track record in leading scientific journals.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and to work effectively as a member of a research team.
  • Very good verbal, written, communication, interpersonal, organisational and time management skills.
  • Advanced analytical and computational skills, including the demonstrated ability to perform numerical and symbolic calculations.
