The California Endowment provides 1 Yancey/Edgley Fellowship to doctoral students and professionals from historically underrepresented racial groups committed to fighting obesity in underserved populations through community participatory research, intervention and prevention using physical activity, and other health-promotion strategies. Awardee is required to attend the Yancey/Edgley Fellowship Awards Presentation Event. Awardee must also agree to participate in periodic regular updates and contribute to assessment activities designed to record the impact of the Fellowship.


Eligibility & Requirements

Applicants must be doctoral students, at the dissertation-writing phase, from historically underrepresented racial/ethnic groups (1) whose research interest focuses on issues of obesity and related chronic disease prevention addressed through physical activity, (2) who are working with underserved communities and minority populations in California, and (3) who are using community-based participatory research. Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a doctoral program at a university that is an ASPPH member and CEPH-accredited in the US. Completed online application form. CV. 3 letters of recommendations: 1 from the dissertation chair, 1 from a faculty member attesting to the applicant's ability to conduct and complete research and dissertation, and 1 from a community health professional describing the applicant's capacity to work collaboratively and meaningfully with the community in research and experience doing so to date. Official, sealed transcripts from all schools attended, include the most recently completed term.
