NATURE OF ORGANIZATION
The Department of Law, Societies, and Justice (LSJ) is a dynamic, inter-disciplinary unit that enables students an opportunity to understand and analyze the complex and consequential roles that law plays in the social world, and the meaning of rights and justice. Its faculty are well-regarded for their teaching and research excellence.

LSJ’s emphases on comparative law and rights distinguish it as one of the most innovative of such programs in the United States. LSJ has eight core and three additional faculty members, three professional staff, and one student assistant. The department serves more than 200 majors and a similar number of minors; it also offers a graduate certificate for PhD students in the social sciences, law, or the Evans School. LSJ selects majors through a competitive admissions process. These students are energetic and engaged, and are eager to use their University experience to position themselves for careers of deep personal and social significance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary duties include: • Open and/or close the office as necessary. Pick up, deliver, and sort mail. • Provide a friendly and professional experience to any customer as they interact with our office. Greet all visitors, answer phones, respond to and/or direct to the appropriate LSJ member or resource. Transcribe voicemail and deliver messages. • Assist in the coordination of the day-to-day operations of the office. Provide basic assistance with computers, printers, and scanners. Clean workstations and supply areas. Organize and move equipment, supplies, and materials. • Organize digital databases and data entry. • Photocopy, collate, shred and fax documents. • Establish an understanding of and assist customers with questions relating to LSJ services,
policies, and procedures. • Work independently and collaboratively in an interdependent, team environment.

Ask for help from others and provide help to others as needed. Additional duties may include any combination of the following: • Provide office support to faculty and general project work, as needed. • Other duties as assigned.

Skills/Eligibility:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requirements: Must be eligible for Work Study• Ability to greet office visitors, answer phones professionally, take detailed messages, and direct calls. • Ability to work with a diverse clientele. • Ability to work in a technology-oriented environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities. • Ability to work independently, able to be self-motivated in completing work and meeting deadlines. • Experience maintaining paper and electronic files, proficient in maintaining organization. • Attention to detail in proofreading, editing, and corresponding with accuracy. • Proficient computer skills. Desired: • Customer service background with personal contact and telephones. • Experience maintaining paper and electronic files. •Conditions of Employment: • Must be available to work up to 19 hours per week, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00
p.m., Monday through Friday • Preference will be given to candidates who can commit to working for this academic year. • A COVID vaccination verification is required.
