Job Summary

Under the direction of the Senior Curator, the Curatorial Administrative Assistant is responsible for providing administrative and planning support to the curatorial department. The ideal candidate will possess a high level of organizational skills, excellent (English) written and verbal communication skills, a strong interest in the arts, and the desire to learn about exhibition development and museum practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide general administrative assistance and support to the Senior Curator, the curatorial department at large, and other collaborators as needed/directed .
• Manage and organize data related to departmental projects and correspondence, including creating, updating, and managing exhibition checklists, meeting minutes, and contact lists.
• Assist with exhibitions planning tasks, including confirming credit lines, copyright conditions, and researching, requesting, and securing image permissions.
• Assist with object and exhibition research and varied curatorial functions.
• Maintains and updates accurate records pertaining to the collection and exhibitions, using a computerized collections database management system (Argus).
• Track correspondence and updates of internal and external documents.
• Facilitate communication with UMFA staff, including drafting, sending, and receiving mail and email correspondence.
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
Preferences

• Some college-level experience studying within the field of art history, humanities, or museum studies
• Previous museum experience as a volunteer, employee, or intern
• Proficiency in MS Office, image software
• Attention to detail and organizational skills
• Self-motivated, resourceful, creative, and ability to work well on a team
• Strong communication and time management skills
• Strong interest in the arts and/or museums
