Job Description


The OU Writing Center, a unit of Academic Engagement at the University of Oklahoma, provides over 7000 face-to-face and online peer consultations annually to writers from OU and other institutions. We are seeking undergraduate writing consultants from all majors who will work extensively with fellow student writers and respond to and support their writing - both academic and non-academic - in the OU Writing Center. 

Qualified candidates will demonstrate writing and communication strategies to help students learn in an academically enriched and positive environment.  Best practice skills include writing and other modes of communication; time management; curiosity and eagerness to learn.  Writing consultants must be able to work with students from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities in a collaborative environment.  They will demonstrate respect for the confidentiality and academic needs of all writers who use the services.  Successful candidates will also have an interest in learning about writing center scholarship and practice.

Job Requirements


Required Education: Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

  • Must attach Fall 2019 class schedule.

Department Preferences:

    • Experience working with writers in a peer educational environment, especially a writing center.
    • Ability to use a laptop computer and word processing programs.  Adaptive technology is available.
    • Experience working as a writer in the OU Writing Center.
