GTRI’s Cooperative Education (“co-op”) program offers you extensive opportunities to participate in diverse scientific and technological endeavors, use state-of-the-art equipment and rapidly improve your technical and leadership skills. The program allows you to alternate three semesters of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school.

CIPHER's Secure Information Systems Division seeks a Co-op student beginning the fall 2021 semester. The student is expected to join the organization under the tutelage of experienced software developers and to enthusiastically contribute to two small development teams working to improve the function of and add new capabilities to two existing web applications. These web applications support relatively small, but very important, groups of government users and are built on top of Microsoft-based internet technologies including Internet Information Server (IIS), SQL Server, Visual Studio, and C#. Over time, the person fulfilling this role will be expected to gain increased knowledge and skill within these and related Microsoft internet technologies to the point where they become a significant technical contributor to the overall team.

Required Minimum Qualifications


• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
• Must be eligible to be approved by your college/university to participate in a co-op program and register for co-op credit with your university during work terms. Beginning fall 2021
• Must be able to complete at least three full-time co-op terms (alternating three terms of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school) prior to graduation

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in 1 or more programming languages
• Task/team leadership experience
• Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
• Familiarity with Linux and open-source tools, Microsoft development technologies, and SQL
• Configuration management tools
• Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance upon hire
