Job Summary

The Student Success Communications Specialist writes, updates and systematically maintains college information relative to student success, including:

  • Serving as a communications support for student leaders, advising, and field practicum efforts.
  • Student timely communications through appropriate print and online channels.
  • Other college print/online publications regarding student success efforts and accomplishments.

The CHHS Student Success Communications Specialist also assists in the planning and promotion of college events, the creation and maintenance of college website content, promotion of the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden, and performs other duties as assigned.


Key Responsibilities
  • Write, edit, and systematically update college-wide communications in relation to student success. 
  • Assist with college events and be the lead in updating CHHS website content.
  • Write, edit, and systematically update communications about the CSULB Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Excellent writing and editing abilities for news, creative, and feature formats. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Sound understanding of communications and media relations. Strong working knowledge and understanding of the academic world. Skills using social media, website content management tools, desktop publishing and graphics software required. Punctuality, attendance and dependability expected. Ability to provide excellent customer service in a busy office environment. Ability to maintain confidentially of sensitive information

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."


Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, or Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent work experience, plus. Two years of experience in media, communications, and/or public relations functions required. At least one year of experience managing social media in a professional or academic setting preferred

Compensation

The targeted salary may be set as minimum as $4,200 per month based on experience. The salary range for this classification is $3,120 to $5,283 per month.

Time Base

Full-time temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
