Student Service - Wellness Grad Intern

Purdue University Division of Recreation and Wellness is seeking one qualified applicant for a one year Graduate Assistant Internship that requires 20 hours per week on an established schedule that fits with the student’s course demands. (Note: Students will be paid hourly – this position does not include tuition reimbursement.) The Graduate Assistant Intern will report to the Senior Assistant Director, Wellness Programs and work collaboratively with other professional staff to assist in the management of all areas of a grant from the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction; focusing on mental health promotion/mindfulness and substance abuse prevention.  The position will also serve as a role model and provide leadership to all wellness student interns and staff.  The candidate will be afforded a variety of experiences within the Division of Recreation and Wellness including, but not limited to; grant administration, assessment, program implementation, and a G.A. Development Series.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide assessment, program implementation, documentation, and reporting of all areas of mental health promotion/mindfulness or substance abuse prevention relating to the grant. 
  • Advise the Purdue Substance Free Collegiate Community. 
  • Implement program goals and objectives through media campaigns, develop and implementing trainings, deliver presentations, to Purdue students, faculty and staff.
  • Work collaboratively to develop content-specific methods and activities to accomplish program goals and objectives.
  • Provide continuous program evaluation through various formal and informal feedback techniques/maintain program statistics.  Work with program evaluator on assessing grant components.
  • Prepare reports and other documents with office staff.
  • Collaborate/network with other professionals at the local, state, regional, and national levels, as appropriate.
  • Attend and participate in Recreation and Wellness staff meetings and designated department or grant activities.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree (Health Promotion, Health Communication, Health Education, or related field preferred)

Admittance to Graduate School at Purdue University

Solid understanding of wellness, mental health/substance abuse, especially as it relates to the college population

Strong desire to gain knowledge and experience in all areas of grant administration and program implementation

 This hourly position begins on August 1st and continues until the grant period ends in summer 2020 and upon successful academic and professional progress. The pay rate is $19.00 per hour.
