Student Researcher - Social Sciences and Bioethics

The Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a part-time Student Researcher (~10/week) to provide research support in ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI) of genomics. This position will work with Dr. Stacey Pereira, PhD on a project investigating the ethical and policy issues associated with genetics of cardiometabolic disorders. This position is funded through July 2022 and eligible candidates will be currently enrolled in college at the undergraduate or graduate level in a related field.
 

• Works closely with the principal investigator to support the day-to-day progress for a study of ELSI issues associated with genetics of cardiovascular and metabolic disease.
• Helps with survey programming and data management to ensure quality and identify and address issues as they arise.
• Conducts bilingual surveys (English and Spanish) over the phone with patients about their experience with genetic testing. 
• Conducts literature searches and summarize information. 
• Builds reports based on findings for research team and collaborators.
• Assists with preparation of papers and presentations for dissemination of findings.
• Attends project meetings.

• Must be a High School or College Student (undergraduate or graduate).
• Experience Required: None Required.

• Professional working proficiency to native fluency in Spanish. 
• Bachelor's degree in social sciences, bioethics, public health or related field.
• One year of relevant research experience in bioethics, public health or social sciences.
• Detail-oriented, self-motivated, efficient, and strong organizational skills.
• Demonstrate a high degree of flexibility in accepting work assignments with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks, understand processes, and resolve issues.
