Occ Summary

Administer anesthetics to render patients ins ensible to pain duringsurgical, obstetrical and other medical procedures .

Work Performed

Administer general anesthetics to re nder patients insensible topain during surgical, obstetrical and other m edical procedures; takenecessary remedial action to aspirate secretions from throat larynx andtrachea as required.Determine, set up and prepare necessarydrugs, supplies and equipment for the administration of anesthetics;assemble gas machine and test to insure proper functioning; ensurea vailability of proper type blood for emergency use.Studypatient records todetermine probable effects of anesthetic on patient;monitor vital sign sduring course of procedure; take necessary actionto ensure a near norma lphysiological status of the patient.Prepare patients for anesthesia toi nclude explainingprocedures and positioning patient on operating room ta ble; recordcondition of patient and type of anesthetic used on patient'schart.Assist in moving patient from operating room to recovery area;che ck patient periodically and take remedial measures to alleviateunfavorab le post anesthesia effects as required.Supervise andinstruct student nur se anesthetists in the administration of generalanesthetics; assist inev aluating clinical performance and progress;instruct residents, internsan d allied health students in theprocedures and techniques of anesthesiolo gy.Disassembleequipment and clean work area; report necessary equipment repairs andadjustments to proper personnel.Maintain records of eachanest hetic administered and prepare periodic reports related toactivities.Per form other related duties incidental to the workdescribed herein.

Minimum Qualifications

BSN is required. Must be currently enrolled in a Master's degree program from a school of nurse anesthesia approved by the State Accrediting Agency and the Council on Accreditation of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).


At least 2 years of critical care experience to be accepted into the program.

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Must have current RN licensure.
