Position Overview

The University of Kansas seeks a Student Recruiter Senior to work exclusively with international recruiting.  This position is critical in working with prospective international students and parents to provide counseling, advising and other related educational services to assist with the admissions and academic program selection process; as well as providing an international presence and support to out-of-country recruitment representatives located across the globe. The successful candidate will independently manage KU’s international recruitment plan, including but not limited to: managing and helping to develop a strategic communication plan; communicating daily with prospective international students, families and high school counselors abroad and managing selected correspondence pieces.  This position is also responsible for developing a data-informed recruitment strategy aligned with institutional recruitment objectives.  This position does require both international and domestic travel to high schools, colleges and other learning institutions to recruit students.

Job Description

Support, Develop and Implements International Recruitment Initiatives (55%)

  • Develop and implement data-informed international recruitment strategy, including the generation of reports and metrics used to analyze efforts and inform future strategies
  • Manage annual recruitment budget
  • Communicate daily with prospective international students and families
  • Meet with and give presentations to prospective student individuals and groups
  • Counsel and advise students about various university majors, programs, support services, as well as, admission, scholarship and pre-arrival processes
  • Develop and implement annual webinar and armchair recruitment plan
  • Lead workshops and develop online webinars for training and communications with global partners
  • Manage daily live chat on IA website and host Skype/Zoom calls with students
  • Travel to represent KU at education fairs, high schools, universities and international education partner offices (i.e. EducationUSA) internationally and nationally as needed
  • Network with HS counselors and university personnel, internationally and nationally as needed
  • Network with recruitment counterparts across the university and actively promote collaboration opportunities at both undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Ensure active follow-up communication after international and domestic travel
  • Maintain contact with students throughout admission process and make referrals to other campus offices when appropriate
  • Develop materials and resources to recruit prospective students, with input from director and communications coordinator
  • Correspond with students, government offices, foreign ministries of education, US Consulates and Embassies, foreign secondary and post-secondary institutions and educational agents
  • Outreach to prospective transfer students, including providing in-depth information regarding transfer credit process and university transfer policies
Management of Country Coordinator offices and International Ambassadors program (40%)
  • Provide leadership to country coordinators, serving as consultant on in-country recruitment strategy
  • Hold weekly support phone calls with country coordinators
  • Be “on call” to answer day-to-day questions from country coordinators
  • Provide ongoing training to coordinators
  • Insure implementation of in-country recruitment plan by coordinators
  • Collaborate with coordinators to develop communications for prospective students and counselors
  • Develop and implement ambassador activities plan
  • Coordinate ambassador events
  • Interview and select new ambassadors
  • Generate reports and metrics used to analyze in-country coordinator and ambassador activities
Assist with implementation of the IA strategic communication plan (5%)
  • Suggest content for social media platforms
  • Monitor student responses to social media ads
  • Collaborate with communications coordinator to determine appropriate timeline for annual communications plan
  • Drawing on field experience, recommend topics for recruitment messaging content
  • Assist with editing/updating of website
  • Update/create student profiles in CRM

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • One year experience in recruitment, advising, counseling, student affairs, sales, communications or a related field.
  • Experience working with confidential records and knowledge of regulatory compliance procedures to protect data (i.e. FERPA).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as evidenced in application, interview, and previous employment experience demanding these skills.
  • Prior work experience working with culturally diverse populations, such as international students as demonstrated by application materials and work history.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Position Requirements: This position requires the ability to travel by automobile or plane to any city or country assigned. Extensive travel and some evening or weekend work required.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional experience in admissions, related higher education area or public relations/marketing.
  • Knowledge of academic programs and support services at the University of Kansas.
  • Experience with strategic student recruitment from inquiry through application including ability to build qualified inquiry pool.
  • Experience working in a data-oriented and results driven admission or industry office.
  • Understanding of CRM philosophy as well as familiarity with CRM technologies, such as, Slate.
  • Proven experience exercising initiative, decision-making and self-discipline.
  • Experience collaborating with different levels of leadership, such as education officials, guidance counselors, university and school leadership as demonstrated by application materials and work history.
  • Knowledge of or proficiency in one or more foreign languages.
