Salary Range: $36,294/year or higher, commensurate with experience and/or education
The Student Loans Assistant assists in the administration of federal, state, and private loans to students.
DUTIES
- Administers loan funds of students including adjusting, awarding, and reversing loans
- Determines student loan eligibility based on budgets and aggregate loan limits; resolves over-awarding issues
- Performs all necessary checks to ensure the validity of the loan
- Reconciles and corrects discrepancies found in comparison reports
- Investigates holds on loans that prevent disbursement
- Communicates with students as necessary to respond to their questions and queries relating to loan guidelines; informs students of missing loan requirements
- Provides loan information to lenders as required
- Reviews and processes student loan forms
- Uses all software and performs data entry tasks as required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge:
- Basic understanding of student loan process and procedures, and the related trends, issues, and accepted practices
Skills:
- Good technical skills, including proficiency in MS Office and the Department of Education website
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills; excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Abilities:
- Ability to create and analyze reports; ability to understand and apply loan guidelines
- Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
WORK LOCATION AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Primary Work Location: Works in an office environment
Physical Demands: :Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment that does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements. The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, sitting, etc. The work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks.
