Position Summary:
 
Student Housing is a self-funded, large and complex campus department consisting of 6 housing communities and 3 support units, with more than 240 staff employees, 300-400 student employees and an annual operating budget of $120 million. Student Housing provides housing for approximately 9,000 undergraduates, graduate students and their families in over 250 buildings and approximately 3.3 million sq. ft. Currently, Student Housing houses 45% of UCI’s enrolled students (in conjunction with American Campus Communities, UCI’s 3rd party housing partner) with a goal of housing 60% as part of the campus Long Range Development Plan (LRDP). Student Housing also provides maintenance and repair services to student residents.
 
The Associate Director of Residential Curriculum and Services supervises Student Life & Development Specialists and support staff, and administers the residential curriculum and services component of the Graduate and Family Housing residence life program. Independently oversees day-to-day operations, and determines goals and performance expectations of subordinates. Oversees day-to-day operations of wellness centers, recreation rooms, fitness centers, computer labs, and community centers, and resident customer service desk. Responsible for creation and aligned implementation of a Graduate and Family Housing track of the Residential Curriculum (Anteaters Living and Learning--ALL) to develop active living-learning communities that promote student/resident engagement. Directly supervises two career staff: a Residential Curriculum Coordinator and a Coordinator of Public Facilities. Indirectly supervises 2 public facility managers, up to 20 student attendants, student programmers, and 16 resident council members representing the 3 different communities. Makes recommendations concerning improvements of the Director of Community Living and Learning. Provides support for residents in crisis. Responds to questions, suggestions, and complaints. Conducts welfare checks as necessary. Provides non-office hours/after hours support for Housing Assistants, Late Night Housing Assistants and other Student Housing staff. Responds to after-hour situations as necessary. Serve as a member of the Graduate and Family Housing and Student Housing Emergency Response Team. Assesses community emergencies and determines appropriate actions. Under the general direction of the Director of Community Living, the Associate Director of Residential Curriculum and Services serves as a member of the Graduate and Family Housing Leadership Team. The GFH Associate Director of Residential Curriculum and Services shares responsibility for a housing unit operation with annual operating budgets. As a member of the GFH Leadership Team, the GFH Director of Assignments collaborates with other managers to establish strategic plans and objectives affecting GFH student curriculum and development across the organization. This includes developing shared priorities and advancing goals in support of student enrollment/retention, development, and inclusive excellence.

Required:
 
Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in residence life, programming, policy review, student conduct and student services.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Valid Driver’s License.
Strong knowledge of University and departmental policies, processes, and procedures. Skill to establish and interpret service contracts. Demonstrated skill in developing and administering a budget. Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs. Skills in monitoring / assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements. Demonstrated managerial skill in planning, organizing, monitoring and controlling multiple operational functions and services. Strong skills in active listening, critical thinking, negotiation, reasoning, organizing, written and verbal communication; multitasking and intercultural competence and uses these skills to develop original ideas to solve problems. Ability to compose reports, letters, instructions, and other documents with attention to clarity, tone, composition, and mechanics. Strong skills in project and program management, social perceptiveness to be aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do. Ability to exercise good judgment, tact, diplomacy and professionalism. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with a broad variety of individuals in person, on the phone, and in writing. Advanced knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Housing/ Graduate Student Life specialization. Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Advanced knowledge of risk assessment principles along with the ability to evaluate risks and the likelihood of consequences. Demonstrated problem solving, decision making, and implementation skills. Strong leadership skills to motivate employees and influence attitudes and behaviors. Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and lead. Ability to create, improve, and monitor work standards, procedures and systems that ensure effective service delivery. Demonstrated ability to build and develop strong communities. Skill in programming educational and social activities for students. Knowledge of graduate student needs and concerns, group living needs and challenges. Master's degree preferred.
 
Special Conditions Required:
 
Must pass background check and DMV clearance required. Must be willing to assist in the event of an emergency/ natural disaster. Must be willing to work occasional overtime, nights and weekends.
