Summary
A part-time student helper position is available immediately in the Kaochar lab at Baylor College of Medicine (Hematology-Oncology Section). A talented undergraduate Student Helper will conduct research in the area of prostate cancer health disparities, under close supervision of senior investigators.The Student Helper will collect and verify research data, conduct data analysis using various research methodologies, organize and prepare research materials, and write research reports. Our research endeavors will provide the undergraduate student helper with an opportunity to learn research procedure and techniques.
Job Duties
- Performs laboratory work in molecular and cellular biology including but not limited to DNA preparation, RNA and protein extraction, PCR, flow cytometry, ELISA, proliferation and cytotoxicity assays, and tissue culture (animal and human).
- Writes and executes programs (Python, R, Perl, Java, and/or C/C++ as needed per project).
- Reads literature and confers with superiors regarding new procedures and modifies them according to the needs of the project.
- Records and evaluates data obtained in accordance with methods requested.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a High School or College Student (undergraduate or graduate).
Preferred Qualifications
- Undergraduate (Freshman).
- Pursuing bachelor’s degree in the area of biological sciences, computer science, or mathematics.
