Summary

The Student Helper will participate in the design and execution of experiments in the field of neuronal injury, under the guidance of senior lab members and the Principal Investigator. The project will include molecular and cellular studies to understand how injury can lead to neurodegeneration and how these processes may be harnessed to instead provide neural repair. Training will be provided in the primary techniques of cell culture, molecular cloning, and immunohistochemistry. The Student Helper will also participate in lab management tasks.


Job Duties

 

  • Executes experimental protocols designed by a senior lab member as part of an on-going project.
    • This will typically involve cell culture and transfection, immunoblotting, molecular cloning, and/or immunohistochemistry. 
  • Acquires, quantifies, and interprets primary data, including through microscopy, under the guidance of a senior lab member.
  • Maintains lab.
  • Performs lab management tasks.
  • Records the results of their work in written lab notebooks and communicating the resulting data digitally.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be a High School or College Student (undergraduate or graduate).
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • No laboratory experience required, beyond that provided by early college coursework.
  • Current college students with coursework in the biological sciences.
  • Strong Organizational skills.
  • Common software skills (spreadsheets, presentation software, search engines, etc.).
  • Adaptable to the changing needs of their research project.
