Description
The technician will work with graduate students, other technicians and University of Nebraska- Lincoln staff in order to sample the fish community below Gavins Point, and Fort Randall Dam in South Dakota with a specific focus on invasive carp species. Sampling will consist of two weeks out of the month in the field using boat electrofishing, mini-fyke nets, and hoop nets. During this field work the crew will stay in a hotel, which the project will pay for. The other two weeks of the month will be spent in the lab processing samples (aging carp), assisting with data entry, and gear repair and management. This position is anticipated to start in May and will end in August.
Qualifications
Applicant must be a current student in an undergraduate program (will be enrolled full time in Fall of 2022). Experience sampling fish/wildlife is preferred but not required. A successful applicant will need to be able to work in a small group, perform moderate physical labor, and record accurate biological data of the species captured. Work will entail working outside in both extreme temperatures and a wide variety of weather conditions. A valid driver’s license is required.
