Job Summary

The Purdue Center for Regional Development (PCRD) is seeking a digitally savvy communication student intern to assist with social media and center communication strategy.  Work with PCRD staff to plan social media posts, pulling information from various sources to create posts for PCRD audiences. Schedule messages and respond/engage in professional manner to questions and/or comments on posts. Work with PCRD staff to examine current communications, develop communication strategy to reach multiple audiences through various communications channels– social media, newsletters, listservs, and campaigns. 

 

Work with PCRD staff to develop social media content based on center news stories and other events within the university. Ensure all PCRD social media posts maintain brand standards. Experiment with alternative ways to leverage social media activities. Consistently monitor activity on all social media presences and elevate PR concerns to leadership. Analyze social media metrics to make recommendations on upcoming posts and engaging with audience. Review calendar of events throughout PCRD and campus to schedule posts accordingly. Research peer and other institutions to review what others are doing through social media. Monitor trends in social media tools, trends and applications and appropriately apply that knowledge to increasing the use of social media at PCRD.

 

 


Responsibilities:

 

  • Oversee all social media posts and created content
  • Develop and execute communication strategies and creative campaigns
  • Develop content ideas, write, and edit content
  • Brainstorm new, creative approaches to PCRD communication strategies
  • Research/investigate emerging trends and technologies
  • Liaising with staff to create and coordinate marketing strategies that work across different communication channels
  • Create graphics for social media posts to accompany content
  • Other duties related to the role as needed

Required:

 

  • Excellent communicator with exceptional written and verbal communication skills, a strong work ethic, and enthusiasm
  • Exceptional team player with strong time management and a willingness to learn new skills and ideas
  • Must be able to work independently to complete projects in a timely manner
  • Digital savvy
  • Positive, professional attitude
  • Previous experience in marketing, advertising, communication, public relations, or related field

 

Preferred: 

  • Federal Work Study is preferred

 

Hours Worked

Applicants should be available to work a minimum of 10 hours and up to 20 hours per week, typically during the hours of Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
