Position Title Student - Biology/Chemistry Tutor
Position Category Student (Variable Hour)
Summary
Utah Valley University is seeking a student to assist the Academic Tutoring department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Tutor students (individually and in groups) by appointment and/or drop-in, in assigned courses and content material.
  • Participate in required tutor training and certification.
  • Tutor students in various locations on the main campus or at designated satellite locations.
  • Volunteer for on-campus events
Required Qualifications
  • Must be a current UVU student
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Grade B+ or better in CHEM 1210 & CHEM 1220 and currently/will be enrolled in CHEM 2310
  • Grade B+ or better in Bio 1610
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of Chemistry courses/content.
  • Familiarity with available student resources on campus.
  • Basic understanding of study skills and strategies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong time and task-management skills.
  • Reliability.
  • Ability to collaborate with students to enhance their content knowledge.
  • Ability to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear, concise, and friendly manner.
  • Ability to read, write, and be understood in English.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with staff, faculty, and students and contribute to the smooth operation of the tutoring labs.
  • Ability to participate in on-going training.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Grade of B+ or better in CHEM 2310 AND 2320 (or currently enrolled in 2320)
  • Highest preference will be given to students with the above courses AND a grade of B or better in other science courses (i.e., BIOL 1610, BIOL 1620, BIOL 3500, ZOOL 2320, ZOOL 2340, etc.).
Physical Requirements
  • Walking/standing for periods of time.
