What You Will Do

We are seeking a Post-Baccalaureate (Post-Bac) student to join our team! The Intelligence and Space Research (ISR) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory has been designing, building, and operating highly innovative ground, air, and space-based measurement and detection systems for nearly 60 years. We solve some of the most challenging scientific and national security problems facing the world today. By providing satellite-borne gamma-ray, X-ray, and neutron detectors to the US government, ISR division supports monitoring of the atmosphere and near-Earth space for nuclear detonations. Our science programs cover several disciplines, including gamma-ray astrophysics, space situational awareness, planetary exploration, solar-terrestrial interactions, magnetospheric physics, and radio propagation in the ionosphere. This brings about vast scientific computing challenges, and we have a matching expertise in developing sophisticated computing architectures.

ISR-1 (Space Science and Applications Group) is currently seeking Post-Bac students in the following area(s):

  • Simulations and data analysis for space-based gamma-ray astrophysics.

Students should have experience with independent research, equivalent to a year of work on an undergraduate thesis.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree awarded in the past three years, but have not yet been accepted and enrolled in a graduate program.

  • Some experience with Linux, C/C++, Python, data analysis, and experimental methods.

  • Successful experience working in an integrated team environment.

  • Good interpersonal communication skills.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's degree in Physics or Engineering (or closely related field) awarded within the past 3 years, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or its equivalent.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Some experience with independent research.

  • One year of experience working on an undergraduate thesis.

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.
