Position Summary

Reporting to the Program Coordinator for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives and other members of the University Life team, the Graduate Assistant will support the wide-ranging diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts within University Life. 


Responsibilities

  • Student Events - Staff and support managing logistics for major events hosted by University Life such as Columbia Welcome and our signature event series. 

  • Inclusion & Belonging - Assist in coordinating programming and initiatives that focus on themes of inclusion and belonging such as the Graduate Initiative for Inclusion and Engagement.

  • Sexual Respect Programming - Support programs under the Sexual Respect Initiative and Community Citizenship Initiative, including scheduling training sessions, managing communication with student facilitators and tracking evaluation data.

  • Club/Student Advising - Serve as direct advisor for various student groups housed under the Inter-School Governing Board.

  • Marketing & Media - Create promotional flyers and materials, event descriptions, registration links and work closely with the communications team within the office.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.  Current graduate student at Columbia University is preferred.

  • Ideal candidates will have experience and interest in student affairs, student development and deep interest in working on diversity, equity and inclusion issues. 

  • Proficient with MS Office and other office software. Canva and Zoom experience is a plus.


Position Details 

  • Graduate Assistants will be paid $21/hour for approximately 20 hours per week throughout the academic year. 

  • The assistantship will run from September 2021 through May 2022, with possible opportunity to extend the following year.

  • Graduate Assistants will also work on many other projects on a rolling basis and we are looking for candidates that are flexible, creative and have the ability to work both independently and in groups.
