Sexual Assault Advocate (Grant-funded)

Location: Tiffin, OHIO

The Sexual Assault Advocate provides trauma-informed, victim-focused sexual assault services, data entry, and education and crisis intervention for students who are survivors of sexual assault, dating/domestic violence and/or stalking. The advocate also assists in raising community awareness regarding the impact of sexual violence. This is a part-time position (5-10 hours per week) and requires flexibility in scheduling, including some evening and weekend hours. This is a grant-funded position, and the assignment will end in May 2024.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports directly to  OVW Grant Project Director.  

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

The sexual assault advocate has no supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide quality advocacy and support to all survivors of sexual assault, domestic/dating violence and stalking who request services

Provide confidential crisis intervention, information and referral, and accompaniment to medical and legal/Title IX services as requested

Provide survivors with information about how to file a complaint with campus safety or Title IX Office and how to report a crime to local law enforcement and offer to assist survivors with filing complaint, if survivor so chooses

Conduct survivor satisfaction survey or use other method(s) to assess the effectiveness of the services provided to survivors

 Meet regularly with Title lX Coordinator to share information about the needs of survivors, trends in sexual assault services provided, additional services that are needed and the effectiveness of the college’s sexual assault prevention and response programs

 Attend trainings related to sexual assault advocacy

 Connect with campus and community partners

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Professional Experience:

(A)  Bachelor’s degree and/or at least 1-3 years experience in sexual assault advocacy and support of victim related services

Preferred Education and Experience:

(A) Certified Sexual Assault Advocate

Ability to plan, coordinate, and provide direct services to students in need

 Knowledge of community resources and applicability to student needs

 Good interpersonal skills and ability to relate to persons of all backgrounds and ages

 Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and professional behavior

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:  Knowledge of operation and use of various office equipment including, but not limited to:  personal computer, including spreadsheet and word processing software, integrated database software, fax machine, copier, telephone, scanner, and printers.  Employee in this position must have a valid driver’s license.  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.  

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use arms, hands and fingers to operate and manipulate equipment generally found in an office setting.  The employee may be frequently required to be mobile, communicate, and hear.  The employee may occasionally be subject to a variety of outdoor environmental conditions including heat, cold, and precipitation.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Mental demands include varied degrees of occasional stress while performing job duties.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in an office setting, and educational facilities including sports and entertainment venues, all of which may be indoor or outdoor.  The noise level in the work environment will range from moderately quiet to occasionally loud. 

SELECTION GUIDELINES:  The Sexual Assault Advocate will be selected after a formal application procedure, education and experience rating, oral interview, and reference check.  Job related tests may be required.  All offers of employment are contingent upon a satisfactory criminal background screen, motor vehicle record search, drug and alcohol screen, physical and / or psychological examination at the University’s discretion.
