Position Summary:
 
The Department of Medicine is comprised of 11 Divisions by Medicine Subspecialty. The post award team in the Finance unit is responsible for management of more than $29 million in contracts, grants and research funding. This centralized unit provides expertise and financial management for contracts, grants and university allocations for research.
Under general direction of the Chief Financial Officer and Finance Manager, the incumbent is responsible for the financial and administrative management of complex federal and private contracts and grants ($5-7 million) as well as other intramural and extramural funds that support various research programs within the Department of Medicine. As part of the Department’s Finance team, the incumbent has independent decision making authority, policy analysis and the interpretation and independent problem solving responsibilities that requires on-going interaction with all levels of university and agency faculty and staff. Incumbent is responsible for providing specific direction to faculty and staff to assure compliance with contract and grant costing principals. This requires knowledge in: agency specific contracts and grants policies; material management to include purchasing and equipment acquisition principles; personnel/payroll policies and procedures; gift administration; recharge principles; research subcontracting concepts; indirect cost principles; policies and practices related to Uniform Guidance/UG, FDP, Federal CAS requirements.

$66,700.00 - $92,600.00 (Annual Salary) Expected Pay Range within the Full Salary Range $66,700.00 - $118,500.00 (Annual Salary)


 


Required:


 

  • Minimum of three years of experience managing multi-million dollar sponsored projects. 
  • Experience administering research funding from agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense and Other federal agencies. 
  • Demonstrated skill in understanding and interpreting current federal, state and University regulations relating to contracts and grants administration to include Uniform Guidelines/UG, and FDP
  • Bachelor's degree or combination of education and experience
  • Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment. 
  • Ability to manage significant volume of transactions. Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting. 
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
  •  Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles. Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques Demonstrated skill to independently analyze situations, interpret data, define problems and/or objectives, identify relevant factors, and formulate logical conclusions and recommendations.


 


Preferred:
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc. 
  • Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration. 
  • Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsor guidelines. 
  • Knowledge of University and School of Medicine Systems including KFS and DSS Experience in an Academic Medical Center


 


Special Conditions Required:

 

  • Must be willing to travel to campus on a regular basis to meet with faculty and attend Contract and Grant trainings.
