Job Description

ECU ITCS Information Security Office is looking for highly capable juniors, seniors, or graduate students, typically majoring in disciplines including Information and Computer Technology, Computer Science, Technology Management, Network Technology, Cyber Security, and Management Information Systems (although other relevant majors may also be considered). We are seeking students with exceptional grade point averages, and consider other qualities including leadership, communication ability, and community service experiences. Our students work on a part-time basis, around 15 hours per week, performing the duties of an entry-level cyber security analyst under the supervision of full-time information security specialists.

These student employees, through valuable hands-on experience in information security, something critical to the world economy, will develop and refine their knowledge and skills to prepare them to be successful in the global market. The students will have the opportunity to learn and apply skills in information security and cyber security, in areas such as security awareness, technology security assessment, and cyber security incident response functions.

Responsibilities of the Cyber Security Student Employee position include the
following:
-Assist the Information Security Office in developing security awareness materials for
staff, faculty, and students, writing with high quality and accurate technical details.
-Serve as an entry level resource within the SIEM technology area, and utilize SIEM
dashboards to assess security events and analyze critical data from network devices.
-Assist in the vulnerability management processes.
-Assist in the technology security assessment (TSA) processes.
-Participate in knowledge sharing with other information security analysts.
-Maintain a working knowledge of security policies and execute security controls as
assigned.
-Maintain knowledge of networking protocols and technologies, and knowledge of server
and workstation operating systems.
-Other duties as assigned
