Essential Job Duties
The Pacifici Quantitative Ecology Lab at NCSU is searching for a passionate and qualified wildlife technician to aid in a field study of the Neuse River Waterdog (Necturus lewisi) during the 2021-2022 winter season. This study will be conducted as part of PhD Research, in conjunction with efforts from the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, to assess the current status of the Neuse River Waterdog. Experience gained from this position will include learning wildlife monitoring techniques, stream and riparian habitat assessment techniques, communication and networking with government agency personnel, and wildlife population assessment study design. 
 
The technician will be working under the direct supervision of a graduate student. Expected daily availability is 8am to 5pm, Monday-Friday, although actual daily hours may fluctuate due to waterdog captures and travel distance. Tasks will include setting and checking traps five days per week, dip-netting in streams, handling and collecting morphometric data on individuals captured, tagging study animals using Visible Implant Elastomer (VIE), collecting tail tissue samples, and collecting abiotic stream data.
