Scholarship information

This scholarship was established in 2005 to honor the memory of Sarah Anne McNeil, a Political Science and Kinesiology double major who was killed in a car accident. As a way of honoring her industry, spirit, and character, this scholarship is intended to recognize students who excel in the classroom and whose boundless energy sparks positive results throughout the community. Students who receive this scholarship will be recognized as "McNeil Scholars."

Additional criteria: 

Only applicants that meet all of the following requirements will be considered for the scholarship:

  • Applicant must be a Political Science major (BA or BS) in the School of Politics and Global Studies, in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at ASU, Tempe Campus.
  • Applicant must be pursuing a second major in another academic discipline at ASU at the time of application. 
  • Applicant must be a full time student (be enrolled in 12 semester hours).
  • Applicant must have completed 25 semester hours (sophomore status) by the end of the semester in which the application is made (25 completed hours on DARS).
  • Applicant must have a cumulative gpa of 3.50 or higher.  

  • Donor preferences: 

    Preferential consideration will be given to applicants who meet the above requirements and demonstrate the following:

  • Applicants who are teaching, want to teach and/or work with children.
  • Financial need

    Application information

    Applicants must provide required information through portal app by published deadline to be considered for this scholarship. Students who have been nominated by a Faculty member are also required to submit the completed application. A complete application includes these documents:

  • Portal app information
  • Essay (around 500 words, provide answer in "Supplemental Essay" section) which addresses the following:
    - The value of being a double major at ASU
    - The student's interest in teaching and/or working with children, and
    - A statement of the student's financial need status
