GENERAL DESCRIPTION | The Illinois Institute of Technology College of Architecture (IIT) is pleased to announce an exciting new opportunity for emerging academics: the Jeanne and John Rowe Fellowships. Each Rowe Fellowship is a two-year teaching and funded research appointment. Fellows select their own research agenda, leading to a project to be completed during their stay at IIT. Projects may include built work, publications, symposia, or other forms of creative activity. Fellows will teach design and additional courses that draw on their research and professional expertise. Successful candidates will propose a research-based project designed to educate and inspire the next generation of architects and landscape architects in areas relevant to buildings and urbanism, including: materials and technologies, architecture and urban ecologies, practice models, and aesthetics. Rowe Fellows should be at once visionary and pragmatic, possessing a dynamic outlook on emerging ideas for the built environment—and the capability to translate those ideas into realizable initiatives. In addition to any area(s) of specialization, candidates should demonstrate an ability to contribute to the intellectual life of a studio-focused architecture school and its activities, including student engagement, design reviews, curricular development, and contributions to College publications and events. Today’s College of Architecture builds upon its unique legacy as a pioneering center of rigorous thinking and making in the Modern tradition. Located in Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s inspiring Crown Hall, the College is focused on the future of design, practice, and scholarship in an interconnected and urbanized world. With a faculty of nearly 100 practitioners and scholars, IIT offers its 630 students a full range of degree programs from BArch to PhD. Chicago—shaped by generations of IIT faculty and alumni—provides unparalleled resources for exploration and collaboration. IIT benefits from deep and productive relationships with the city’s professional community and civic organizations, including the Chicago Architectural Biennial, the American Institute of Architects, the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Council for Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, the Society of Architectural Historians, the Graham Foundation, and more. The generosity of Jeanne and John Rowe makes these Fellowships a unique opportunity for growth, discovery, and support. For more information about the College, see www.arch.iit.edu . In keeping with our history and values, IIT’s College of Architecture welcomes students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of backgrounds. Candidates are encouraged to explain how they will support and help expand diversity, equity, and inclusion in the College and the profession. Applicants should submit a single PDF, of not more than 20 MB, containing: · A short (no more than 500 words), compelling letter of interest, describing a research and/or design proposal for the two-year Fellowship · A curriculum vitae · Names and contact information for three references (no letters at this stage) · Examples of relevant academic and creative work The PDF filename format should be lastname_firstname, and it should be sent to [email protected] . Applications are due by January 10, 2022 to be considered for the Fall 2022 academic appointment. |
