Job Description
The Robotic Systems and Technology Branch is looking for undergraduate students to work on various aspects of mobility and mapping with a small autonomous drone starting in fall 2021. These students should be able to work in a group setting to develop and implement various algorithms for autonomous mapping, exploration, and mobility, as well as work with commercial-off-the-shelf programming interfaces for drone systems. Tasks will include items such as background research, programming, debugging, and testing.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Student Assistant
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field
- Must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
- Experience in C++
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with the Robot Operating System (ROS)
- Knowledge of simultaneous localization and mapping algorithms
- Knowledge of autonomous exploration algorithms
- Knowledge of data structures and algorithms
- Experience with mobile robotics
- Task/team leadership experience
- Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
- Familiarity with Linux and open-source tools
- Familiarity with configuration management tools (git in particular)
- Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas to non-technical personnel
