The Japanese Foundation awards 16 fellowships to postdoctoral scholars, researchers, and professionals who wish to conduct research in Japan for up to 1 year. The Scholars and Researchers (Short-Term) Fellowship lasts for 21-59 days. The Scholars and Researchers (Long-Term) Fellowship lasts for 2-12 months.
Eligibility & Requirements
Applicants for Scholars and Researchers program (both Long-Term and Short-Term) must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent professional experience in research, teaching and writing in the fields of the humanities or social sciences. Should have sufficient proficiency in Japanese to pursue research. Preference is given to scholars with letters of affiliation from Japanese Institutions. Projects must be related in substantial part to Japan. For the Research Fellowship (Short-Term), priority will be given to relatively experienced scholars and researchers who are expected to publish their research results shortly after the completion of their fellowship.
