JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The College of Agricultural Sciences ' Office of Grants and Contracts is seeking to hire an energetic Proposal and Award Generalist - Senior Professional. The sponsored programs enterprise at Penn State is a highly decentralized environment and offers a broad range and depth of research administration responsibilities at the College level. This position has become open during a time of exciting change and innovation within the department. The purpose of this position is to provide post-award research administration expertise to a portfolio of departments within the College of Agricultural Sciences and directly supervisor 1-2 junior research administrators. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Grants and Contracts/Lead Post-Award. This position will perform work activities in a large volume, fast paced, complex, detailed, and multifaceted environment that requires multi-tasking expertise, managing conflicting priorities often on a deadline, timely work production, and the ability to solve complex problems. 

 

The selected individual’s job responsibilities will be to:

  • Oversee all post-award administration duties in the assigned departments including but not limited to processing, monitoring and closing contracts and grants from various federal, state, local agencies and private companies and foundations.

  • Maintain knowledge of funding policies, regulations and procedures to assist with the administration of awards and to assist in the determination of the allocability, allowability, reasonableness and consistency of costs. 

  • Use and interpret award guidelines, regulations and policies to effectively guide departmental offices in managing their grants.

  • Supervise and train junior research administrators. 

  • Improve complex work processes and problems and address systemic roadblocks.

  • Proactively engage faculty and managers to solicit their recommendations and feedback on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of award management.

 

Education and Experience:

This position will be filled as a Senior Professional and typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree or higher plus six years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Experience with managing email, utilizing financial and electronic research administration programs such as SAP, MS Office Suite Excel, SIMS Budgets, and sponsor specific submission systems is required. Successful graduation of the PSU ACOR Certification and Education Series (ACES) program is/will be required. This position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and familiarity with a broad spectrum of granting agencies, foundations and industry sponsors. Delegated signature authority is vital to this position.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$56,200.00 - $81,500.00
