What You Will Do

This posting is under the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Engineering (ALDW).

The Process Modeling and Analysis Group (E-2) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking Post-Master’s students for internship opportunities to partner with other LANL staff on a variety of national security programs requiring process modeling, systems/industrial engineering or operations research support, and decision analysis. E-2 is part of the Engineering Technology and Design Division (E), and we provide engineering support, process simulation modeling, systematic analysis, programmatic risk analysis, decision support, and integrated planning for a diverse portfolio of projects. You will apply science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills to a wide variety of problems including process improvement, decision support, and simulation modeling.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Technical Knowledge – Knowledge and understanding of statistical concepts and application of STEM concepts to practical problems.

Communication – Effective written and oral skills (including the ability to interact with and solicit information from subject matter experts).

Analysis skills – Effective analysis skills including the ability to interpret data and present analysis results.

Education – Position requires a Master’s Degree in STEM field, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale within the last 3 years.

Desired Qualifications:

Operations research / Industrial engineering – Knowledge of operations research or industrial engineering principles (such as process improvement, decision support, process analysis, optimization, risk analysis, etc.).

Modeling and simulation – Familiarity with modeling and simulation concepts including the application of probability and statistics to process models. Knowledge and experience with simulation modeling tools is also desired.

Programming – Familiarity with computer programming languages and coding principles.

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2-Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
