Job Summary:

The University Information Technology Services (UITS) department of the University of Massachusetts System Office is seeking a highly experienced student information system (SIS) technology professional with subject matter expertise in student records, campus community, and student information management. The Principal Application Specialist is a pivotal role in the Student Administration technology team and collaborates with colleagues within UITS, the President’s Office, UMass Boston, UMass Dartmouth, and UMass Lowell to effectively leverage our technology and business capabilities to support the UMass mission.

Using your deep functional knowledge in Student Records and Campus Community within a PeopleSoft Student environment, you’ll provide guidance, consultation, and support to campus leadership, enrollment, registrars, and bursars across the entire lifecycle of student data across a complex set of applications, systems, and business processes. You’ll use your industry knowledge of solutions and best practices from the broader student information system landscape to advise on the future roadmap for student technology at UMass. You’ll ensure the integrity of data enables key functions for administrators, faculty, students, and parents.

Essential Functions:

  • As Principal Application, you’ll serve as Product Manager for Student Records and Campus Community within the PeopleSoft Student platform. Key functions include: application support and maintenance; preserving data integrity across the platform and integrated applications; training and documentation; and project planning and implementation.
  • Consulting with campus business users and providing guidance to ensure UMass is effectively and efficiently maximizing the full value from student records  and campus community functions. Develop design specifications based on deep insight into business needs for new use cases, enhancements, and significant innovations.
  • Collaborate on product management and enhancement efforts with the application, infrastructure, security, and reporting teams.
  • Partner with the integration team to develop modern, secure, and reusable student data integration capabilities that enable and accelerate innovation across the system.
  • Create and implement test plans for Student Records and Campus Community/Person Information in PeopleSoft Campus Solutions in collaboration with the Release Management and Quality Assurance team.
  • Promote effective and secure student data stewardship across all stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • Seven years  of product management or project management experience with higher education student enterprise resource planning (ERP).
  • Experience supporting PeopleSoft Campus Solutions.
  • Advanced SQL skills.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):

  • Advanced expertise in Student Records and Campus Community module in PeopleSoft Campus Solutions.
  • Proficiency with FERPA regulations and other personally identifiable information (PII) data security requirements.
  • Experience with data integration across ERP platforms and related business applications.
  • Experience in writing design specifications and test plans.
  • Direct experience working in higher education in positions responsible for the support, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring adherence to academic and federal policies related to student administration such as in the Office of the Registrar.
  • Experience working in a complex multi-school /multi-campus student environment.
  • Experience managing complex technology projects across multiple technology and functional teams.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience in presenting to diverse audiences up to the executive level.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate on cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to continuously learn new capabilities and enhance existing skills.

Working Conditions:

  • UITS’ primary work location is Shrewsbury, MA and this role involves periodic travel to all UMass campuses. However, due to COVID-19, UITS is working remotely and will likely continue remote work for the long term.
  • Participation in an on-call rotation.
  • Periodic weekend and evening work for system maintenance, upgrades and project implementations to minimize the impact on the campus business calendar and student administration operations.

Additional Details:

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
