Job Summary
The University of Utah College of Science seeks a highly skilled and experienced individual to join our team as a Pre-Award Grants and Contracts Officer (GCO) IV. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in working with PIs with pre-award grant and contract management, demonstrating exceptional attention to detail and the ability to navigate complex funding proposals from various sponsors. Your contributions will directly support the cutting-edge research activities of faculty and students in the College’s eight academic units: Atmospheric Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Geology & Geophysics, Mathematics, Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, and Physics & Astronomy.
The role will require project management, budget creation, compliance, writing, and editorial skills. A working knowledge of funding agencies (e.g., NSF, DOE, NIH, etc.) and proposal development best practices is essential. This position will also require coordination with other units on campus, such as the Office of Sponsored Projects, and occasionally with the Institutional Review Board and the Conflict-of-Interest Office.
The salary range for the role is $66,000-$86,000. While the exact schedule will be determined through collaboration with a supervisor, it is anticipated this will be a hybrid role. As such, employees must reside in the state of Utah.

Responsibilities
Proposal Development & Submission:
  • Work with PIs to support the timely development of high-quality grant and contract proposals, ensuring compliance with funding guidelines and regulations.
  • Develop and review project budgets.
  • Collect, review, edit, and format proposal documents. As needed, write non-technical proposal components. Collaborate with stakeholders to gather necessary information.
  • Coordinate with the Office of Sponsored Projects to ensure the submission of proposals.
  • Occasional post-award support for reporting or budgeting may be required.

Professional Knowledge:
  • Proficient with all the duties and responsibilities of a Pre-Award GCO III.
  • Proficient with the full range of proposals submitted by the department.
  • Subject matter expert in a variety of GCO activities.
  • Make substantive contributions to training activities or process development

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s degree + four years of related experience or 12 years of related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
