Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Ultrafast Spectroscopy of Perovskites

Updated: about 1 month ago
Deadline: 2024-04-21T00:00:00Z

Title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Appointment Status: Non-tenure track

Department: Department of Physics, North Carolina Central University

Location: Durham, NC  on-site

Annual Salary: $50,000 - $56,000

Appointment term: Initial appoint of one year, with possible renewal up to three years

Position Summary: We are seeking a postdoctoral research fellow to investigate carrier dynamics and charge transport in metal halide perovskites (MHPs) over a wide range of spatial and temporal scales. The goal of this research is to determine how interactions between excited charge carriers and the soft perovskite lattice influence trapping, recombination and transport properties. The postdoctoral research fellow will conduct multi-modal time resolved experiments including transient absorption, photoluminescence and optical pump – terahertz probe experiments on MHP thin films and MHP-based photovoltaic devices. Experiments will be carried out using conventional far-field microscopy, as well as a recently acquired scattering-type near field optical microscopy system.

Expected Start Date: As soon as possible – application reviews will commence on 2/1/2024 and will continue until the position is filled.

Major Duties/Responsibilities

•Investigate carrier dynamics and charge transport in MHPs using ultrafast optical spectroscopy

•Participate in the development of new research directions in the emerging field of quantum light spectroscopy and microscopy, especially for biological applications

•Communicate research results at meetings and conferences and publish scientific results in peer-reviewed journals in a timely manner.

•Ensure compliance with relevant laboratory safety regulations

Basic Qualifications:

•A PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or a related discipline

•Experience with time resolved optical spectroscopy of semiconductors

Preferred Qualifications:

•Hands-on experience with transient absorption, photoluminescence and terahertz spectroscopy

•Hands-on experience with near-field optical microscopy or scanning probe microscopy

•Growth of perovskite thin films using solution-based techniques

•Experience controlling hardware using LabVIEW and data analysis using Python/Matlab
