JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at the Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a postdoctoral research position as part of a National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded project focused on developing novel vaccine platforms for COVID-19. The successful applicant will join a vibrant team that conducts basic and translational research focused on developing novel vaccines and therapeutics against influenza, SARS-CoV-2, and other viruses.

We are seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Research Associate with experience in immunological, molecular, and biochemical techniques, mouse experimentation, and human cell lines and clinical samples. The successful applicants will be supervised by a team composed of Profs Suresh Kuchipudi (Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics, The Pennsylvania State University), Suresh Mittal (Institute of Inflammation, Immunology and Infectious Disease, Purdue University), and Prakash Sambhara (Immunology section, US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). The position will be primarily based at Sambhara’s lab at CDC in Atlanta, Georgia. The project covers a comprehensive analysis of immunome, Microbiome, metabolome, proteome, and transcriptome postimmunization and viral infection in both cells and animal models.

Research activities include:

SARS-CoV-2 infection and vaccine challenge experiments with pre-clinical animal (mouse and Syrian Hamsters) models

Additional responsibilities include:

The Postdoctoral researcher will also be involved in the laboratory maintenance, including routine equipment maintenance; proper handling, disposal of hazardous materials and waste; maintaining an inventory of laboratory materials; and maintaining a safe and clean laboratory environment.

Experience:

Experience in molecular virology techniques (cloning and reverse genetics), immunophenotyping, and multi-color flow cytometry are highly desirable.

Education:

Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in an appropriate field and provide evidence that all requirements have been met for completion of the Ph.D. before the effective date of hire.

This is a limited term position funded for one year from date of hire with a good possibility of refunding.

This position will be located at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia.
