Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Earth, Marine and Environmental Sciences (EMES) at UNC-CH advances understanding of the earth and ocean processes that govern our planet, shape diverse ecosystems, sustain life, and drive environmental change. Position Summary
Postdoctoral Associate or highly trained Masters level graduate in the fields of wastewater surveillance, molecular biology, environmental water quality, land-water interface, and storm water/wastewater infrastructure science.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
A Ph.D. or M.Sc. at the time of appointment in environmental science, environmental engineering, molecular biology, or related fields is required for this position, as well as a record of research productivity and laboratory experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Expertise in wastewater engineering, application of molecular techniques such as digital PCR, sequence analysis (broadly defined), viral pathogen science, epidemiology, spatial modeling, and innovative analysis tools. We especially seek individuals who complement existing departmental strengths and can work collaboratively in groups in the context of commercialization, industry relationships, stakeholder interaction, and intellectual property.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience with field sampling approaches, autosamplers and flow weighted data, wastewater treatment, package treatment, and septic system design, hydrological modeling, and coastal land-water interface are desired, but not requisite attributes.
