Position Summary

Responsible for conducting research in the funded laboratory of Dr. Soper. Focus of research will be in physical and biological sciences.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in biological or physical sciences, biochemistry, or related disciplines. Interest in cancer research, excellent verbal and written skills, self-motivated, and team worker. Demonstrated abilities in cell cultures and exemplary recording and analytical skills. Must have knowledge of hazards of laboratory activities and related safety practices. Skills in setting up, care and use of laboratory equipment, and ability to develop and assist with development of new and improved methodology.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in microfluidics, fluorescence, cell biology and/or molecular analysis preferred.

Conduct research projects under the guidance of the faculty mentor in the area of microfluidics for the isolation and analysis of liquid biopsy markers for a variety of disease states.

Apply affinity selection of disease markers from blood samples using microfluidics, droplet digital PCR, fabrication of microfluidic devices using hot embossing and/or injection molding, next generation sequencing, fluorescence microscopy, UV/vis spectroscopy, water contact angle measurements, infrared spectroscopy, and real time PCR.

Record and interpret the results of experiments in a laboratory notebook, prepare publication-quality manuscripts (including figures and tables) and publish in peer-reviewed literature.

Attend all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and Department, departmental seminars and regular lab meetings.
