The Post-Doc in the Department of Anesthesiology will be expected to perform research, analyze data, and publish manuscripts in the field of neuroscience, and perform in vivo behavioral studies including optogenetics and fiber photometry. State-of-the-art equipment and appropriate lab space assigned to Dr. Peters will be available to perform these duties, as well as designated space in the animal facility at CU Anschutz. The post-doc will be expected to attend Departmental Research Seminars and present data at local and national scientific meetings. In addition, the post-doc will provide training and guidance to graduate students and technicians in the Peters lab. 

Specific Position Duties with Percentages of Time

[ 80 ]% 

[1st  area of responsibility]:

The Post-Doc will be expected to perform research, analyze data, and publish manuscripts in the field of neuroscience in relation to disorders of addiction. The post-doc is expected to bring a very high level of independence in conducting research in these areas and should be able to set up and trouble shoot experiments independently. In addition, the position will entail data analysis using Python, Matlab, and other tools, thoroughly documenting experimental results and data using a laboratory notebook in conjunction with electronic documentation and data backup, as well as interpreting results in the context of the current literature, and performing appropriate statistical analyses. The post-doc will be expected to write manuscripts, grant applications etc. in a highly independent fashion. As such, the post-doc will be expected to stay informed of the current literature that pertains to his/her assigned research topic, discuss experimental strategies with Dr. Peters and her research team, consider the team’s advice, guidance and leadership, and apply the information obtained to continuously improve in all areas.

[2nd  area of responsibility]:

Dr. Jamie Peters is the direct supervisor of the laboratory and its members. The Post-Doc will meet with Dr. Peters on a regular basis. During these meetings, research progress, planning of experiments, grants and manuscripts will be discussed. Attendance and presentation of ongoing research is required regularly at laboratory meetings.

3rd  area of responsibility]:

The Post-Doc will also be expected to pursue collaborative efforts with other members of the research team, e.g. by providing expertise and knowledge on neuroanatomy and functional neural circuits controlling motivated behavior in different animal models. As such, the post-doc will share knowledge and expertise with members of the research team; help with the training of new team members; assist with establishing and maintaining the infrastructure of the laboratory, which may include setting up new equipment, ordering equipment and/or supplies, organizing the laboratory, etc. These activities may or may not be directly related to the post-doc’s own research projects.

 

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at $53,76- $65,292.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • MD or PhD in the field of neuroscience, pharmacology, or related field
  • Computer software, equipment operation, or research technical experience

Desired or preferred:

  • Experience in Behavioral Neuroscience
  • Proficiency in Python and/or Matlab

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • The ability to work independently within the research lab on assigned projects
  • Interest in learning in vivo fiber photometry and optogenetics
  • Excellent communication skills
