A full-time postdoctoral fellow position in Medicinal Chemistry/Organic Chemistry is available in the laboratory of Dr. Daniel LaBarbera. The LaBarbera laboratory is a diverse multidisciplinary research team comprised of scientists with expertise in HTS/HCS sciences, drug design and medicinal chemistry, molecular cancer biology, and in vitro and in vivo pharmacology. The laboratory is located in outstanding facilities on the vibrant research-intensive Anschutz Medical Campus with state-of-the-art equipment and instrumentation available for cutting-edge research. We are seeking a highly motivated and talented individual with a strong background in synthetic/medicinal chemistry to join our team, which is focused on the development of antitumor agents. The candidate will design and synthesis lead drug derivatives with a goal to improve selectivity, potency, in vivo pharmacokinetics, and efficacy. This position requires a highly motivated self-starter who is willing to learn and able to work effectively independently and as a contributing team member.

Salary for this position is established at $53,760 and will follow the NIH compensation scale for postdoctoral fellows. The position is eligible for individual and dependent health care plans, including medical, dental, disability, and life insurance benefits.

 

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications: The applicant must have a Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry, chemistry or a closely related field and experience in multi-step organic synthesis. 

 

Other Required Qualifications: Preferred candidates will be proficient with compound purification by flash chromatography and HPLC; analytical characterization of compounds by NMR, HRMS, and other required analytical methods; have excellent scientific writing and presentation skills; and are expected to maintain excellent documentation of their work on a daily basis and present their work in weekly laboratory meetings.

 

Highly Desirable Qualifications: Candidates with a strong track record in synthetic medicinal chemistry, particularly with heterocyclic chemistry; experience with computer aided drug design software (e.g. Schrödinger); and a working knowledge of protein purification and/or biochemical assays.
