Job Summary
The Physics Department at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) invites outstanding candidates to apply for a postdoctoral position in neutrino physics. The successful candidate is expected to make important contributions to the NEXT experiment (operating in the Canfranc Underground Laboratory, Spain) and will have the opportunity to play an important role in the SBND experiment (under construction in Fermilab, USA). The NEXT program is focused on the development of high-pressure xenon gas time projection chambers (TPCs) to achieve unprecedented levels of background rejection for future neutrinoless double beta decay searches. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the commissioning, calibration, and to play a leading role in the physics measurements, this involves the development of state-of-the-art analysis techniques. The UTA group leads NEXT in the USA, and the position will involve working closely with Dr. Raquel Castillo Fernández, Dr. Ben Jones and Dr. David Nygren. In addition, the candidate will have the opportunity to take part in SBND, as part of the Short Baseline Neutrino (SBN) program. The SBN group at UTA, Dr. Raquel Castillo Fernández, Dr, Jonathan Assadi and Dr. Jae Yu, have an important involvement and aims to develop innovative data analysis strategies to enhance the sensitivity for BSM searches. Such as the study of the proposed sterile neutrino(s) via constraining uncertainties using in-situ neutrino-nucleus scattering data, and searches of new physics BSM that can be accessible in fixed target experiments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Intensive data analysis, including software development, and hardware instrumentation in particle detectors.
Required Qualifications
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD physicist, in the area of experimental particle or nuclear physics, or closely related field in the beginning to start as soon as possible.
