The Clemson School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences (SMSS) seeks to fill one Postdoctoral position, starting Summer 2023 semester. This is a 12-month position beginning June 1st, 2023 with job duties consisting of conducting experimental and mathematical research. 

Applicants will have two research mentors. The candidate will work under the direction of primary research mentor Dr. Keisha Cook in the SMSS. The secondary mentor will be Dr. Angela Alexander-Bryant in the Department of Bioengineering.
The postdoctoral candidate must be interested in the fields of computational biology, applied mathematics, and interdisciplinary scholarship across bioengineering and statistics. The appointment is initially for one year but is renewable for one additional year contingent upon funding and performance. This position is funded by the Clemson R-Initiatives (CU FELLOWS) to work on a specific interdisciplinary project. The preferred candidate should have a strong background in probability, mathematical modeling, and programming skills.
The postdoc will complete experimental research to quantify endosomal escape after successful peptide delivery of bioactive siRNAs into ovarian cancer cells. The postdoctoral research aims to: 1) develop computationally efficient models, methods, and optimization techniques to quantify endosomal escape of siRNAs in cancer cells, 2) validate the proposed models on experimental data collected by using novel fluorescent microscopy methods on experiments of peptide endosome escape, and 3) develop packages to make the models available for a wide array of applications of population dynamics in gene delivery. The postdoc will receive laboratory training and will assume general responsibility for scientific operations in the lab.
The SMSS contains two divisions: Mathematics and Statistics & Operations Research, and includes the areas of algebra and discrete mathematics, data science, computational mathematics, operations research, probability and mathematical statistics, and pure and applied analysis. Qualifications

Candidates must have received their Ph.D. in mathematics or a related field within 4 years of June 2023.
