The Division of Neuropharmacology and Neurologic Diseases at the Yerkes Center of Emory University seeks a Post-doctoral Fellow for research within the  focusing on Parkinson’s disease using non-human primate model. The goal of this research is to gain a deeper understanding of the functions and connectivity of the basal ganglia-cortical circuits in normal and parkinsonian monkeys. The research involves the use of in vivo electrophysiology, optogenetic and calcium imaging techniques in awake monkeys, and post-mortem anatomical procedures. The successful applicant will gain hands-on experience with first-rate basal ganglia research in the sponsor’s laboratory and will be able to take advantage of the exceptional educational opportunities offered through the large and vibrant neuroscientific community at Emory University, with its strong emphasis on basal ganglia research and parkinsonism.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:
• PhD (in neuroscience or related discipline), or MD
• Technical expertise in at least two or more of the following areas: in vivo electrophysiology, optogenetics, data analysis, calcium imaging, knowledge of the use of the Matlab coding, neuroanatomical techniques, experimentation in non-human primates.
• At least one first-author publication in a peer-reviewed scientific journal
• Good scientific writing and communication skills.

Working Environment
• Involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks (including working with monkeys), which require following basic safety precautions
• Work is normally performed in a typical laboratory environment
