What You Will Do

The successful candidate will work as part of the Fuel Cell Team at Los Alamos National Laboratory on a variety of fuel cell-related projects. The Fuel Cell Team develops novel materials and components for polymer electrolyte fuel cells and water electrolyzers in support of the Laboratory’s energy security missions. This is a one-year position, intended for students who want to develop research skills prior to applying to graduate school and who want to learn about career opportunities at LANL.

Job activities will include:

  • Research on high-performance, cost effective electrocatalysts for fuel cells, electrolyzers, and CO 2 conversion

  • Synthesis and electrochemical/physicochemical characterization of catalysts

  • Fabrication of electrodes for performance evaluation in fuel cells electrolyzers

  • Fuel cell and electrolyzer testing

  • Documentation and presentation of results

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Fluent in common software packages including Excel, Word, PowerPoint

  • Experience with safe handling of hazardous chemicals

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Capability to work and communicate effectively within a team.

Education/Experience :

  • Eligibility is limited to students that have completed a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, chemistry, or related field within the past three years, but no been accepted and enrolled in a graduate program.

  • 3.0/4.0 Cumulative GPA

  • Appointments are for up to two years maximum and the student may work casual, part-time, or full-time.

Additional Details: Post-Baccalaureate is a one-year term student position.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a research laboratory

  • Fundamental knowledge of electrochemistry and electrochemical instrumentation

  • Experience with materials characterization techniques, e.g., microscopic and spectroscopic

  • Experience with data analysis in SigmaPlot, Origin, or using another advanced software

  • Ability to identify issues and troubleshoot for pressurized equipment and electronics

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, NM.

Directive 206.2-Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
