Description
The DeVault Wildlife Lab and collaborators at the University of Georgia are seeking a highly motivated student with strong academic credentials to join our team and pursue a PhD degree in wildlife ecology. The successful applicant will enroll in the Warnell School of Forestry & Natural Resources in Fall 2022 or Spring 2023. They will be stationed at the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory in Aiken, SC when not taking classes. The student’s project will be conducted in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Wildlife Research Center, Ohio Field Station and focus on understanding and preventing bird-vehicle collisions. The student will investigate factors contributing to birdstrike likelihood at two southeastern US airports and the development of new birdstrike risk models. The student will develop research questions within this framework to comprise their dissertation, depending on individual research interests. The student will be co-advised by Dr. James A. Martin.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess well-developed organizational skills and demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication. Applicants must have completed an MS degree in wildlife biology, ecology, or a related discipline prior to enrolling at Warnell. Experience conducting ecological field work, managing a field crew, and evidence of strong quantitative skills are preferred.
