POSITION:

OUTREACH & STUDENT ENGAGEMENT LIBRARIAN: California State University, Stanislaus is seeking a dynamic, people-focused, culturally sensitive, and tech-savvy librarian to join the library faculty as the Outreach & Student Engagement Librarian. This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian. Library faculty work under the general direction of the Dean of Library Services.

Situated at the heart of the campus community, the newly renovated J. Burton Vaschè Library provides a fresh and welcoming gateway to library, technology, and student learning services. The three-story library building offers over 1,000 study seats, 21 group study rooms, quiet and silent study areas, two computer commons, and includes Disability Resource Services, the Warrior Cross Cultural Center, Writing Center, Learning Commons, Academic Success Center, the Fab Lab (maker space) and an OIT Helpdesk. This position offers exciting opportunities to develop, expand and innovate outreach services and student engagement in newly designed modern spaces.

In collaboration with faculty and campus colleagues, the Outreach & Student Engagement Librarian provides leadership for strategies and initiatives that enhance students' knowledge and use of library services, and thereby facilitate student success. The incumbent will build partnerships with student groups and campus units, and actively participate in university functions, working to fully engage the University’s diverse student population. The incumbent will play a key role in facilitating program development for the library’s new Events Hall in collaboration with partners and other campus units. This position will appeal to an energetic professional who is passionate about library outreach services and thrives on student engagement.

Faculty librarians serve as liaisons to academic departments for collection development and participate in library and university faculty governance. Library faculty must demonstrate proficiency in the areas of librarianship; research, scholarship and/or creative activities; and participation in university affairs to earn tenure and promotion.

Primary responsibilities:

- Design, coordinate and conduct outreach initiatives and strategic partnerships with college departments and programs emphasizing the academic support role of the library in student success.
- Lead library outreach efforts to students and student groups to promote the understanding and use of library resources and services.
- Coordinate the library’s presence for new student orientations, open houses, and other campus events.
- Engage with students in various venues, such as Associated Students Inc. (ASI), student clubs, student housing events, and other student-centered activities.
- Develop and coordinate programming for the Library Events Hall in consultation with the dean.
- Facilitate strategic planning and assessment for library outreach programs.
- Manage the content creation and effective use of the library’s social media initiatives.

Additional Responsibilities:

- Provide research assistance at the research help desk (in-person and virtual) during scheduled times, by appointment, and online.
- Participate in curriculum-integrated instruction sessions for both classroom and online learning environments.
- Perform collection development and liaison duties by collaborating with department representatives and faculty members in assigned college or departments.
- Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of library services, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in assessment activities to ensure quality and improve the effectiveness of library services.
- Participate in library and University Committees and affairs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- ALA-accredited or equivalent graduate degree if earned outside the U.S. or Canada
- Experience providing reference, instruction, or outreach services to a diverse student population
- Knowledge of social media platforms and ability to use them effectively
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to collaborate and work effectively within and across organizational boundaries in a diverse environment
- Positive attitude, flexibility, ability to multi-task, and enthusiasm for a changing environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Experience designing promotional text, graphics, or multimedia content
- Experience planning and implementing outreach initiatives and events
- Familiarity with strategies promoting information literacy to a diverse student body
- Experience using Springshare LibApps products or an equivalent library web application

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CLEARANCE NOTICE
