What You Will Do

As a Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) Post Masters Student, you will be introduced to various physical and mechanical design documents such as drawings and schematics, and investigate problems affecting nuclear criticality safety. You will also assist in computational NCS studies, learn the basics of the NCS discipline, and assists in the preparation and presentation of nuclear criticality safety technical reports and evaluations.

You, the student, will be mentored by analysts and the internship provides calculation and work experience that will enhance your undergraduate curriculum

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Basic knowledge of and experience with nuclear physics in general, criticality physics, and accident kinetics, more specifically

  • Basic knowledge of and experience with criticality safety analysis tools such as SCALE/MCNP

  • Demonstrated technical writing skills and good oral communication skills

  • Students must have maintained a GPA of 3.2 or above, and their degree must have been awarded in the past three academic years. Students cannot be accepted into another master’s or PhD program.

Education/Experience : M.S in Nuclear Engineering within the last 3 years and not accepted or enrolled in a Ph.D. program. 3.2/4.0 GPA

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience writing technical papers or proposals.

  • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment with good communication skills.

  • Completed coursework or research experience in one of the disciplines outlined above.

Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Clearance:Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements

  • for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
