Description   The NRC Research Associateship Programs (RAP) awards are 1 to 3-year awards available for scientists and engineers at all stages of their career. There are graduate, postdoctoral, and senior level research opportunities at sponsoring federal laboratories and affiliated institutions. Prospective applicants should read carefully the details of the program to which they are applying. In particular, note eligibility details. Some laboratories have citizenship restrictions (open only to U.S. citizens and permanent residents), and some laboratories have research opportunities that are not open to senior applicants (more than 5 years beyond the PhD). When searching for research opportunities you may limit your search to only those laboratories which match your eligibility criteria. In addition, note the application deadlines, as not all laboratories participate in all reviews.  
Award Amount   Stipends range from $30,000 to $80,000 depending on award type. All include health insurance, relocation benefits, and allowance for professional travel.

Requirements   Research should be compatible with the interests of the sponsoring institution. Open to current master's and doctoral students, recent doctoral degree recipients who have held the doctorate for less than 5 years and senior investigators who have held the doctorate 5 years or more. Proposal must be approved by the prospective Research Adviser and endorsed by the Laboratory Program Representative or Program Committee of the sponsoring laboratory. PhD Dissertation Abstract (Postdocs only). List of publications. Previous and current research.
