Description   The National Academy of Education (NAEd) awards 30 fellowships for PhD students carrying out a dissertation related to improving education, for up to 2 years. The fellowship is given in association by The Spencer Foundation, a foundation that believes research is needed to benefit education. These non-renewable fellowships will be awarded to encourage scholars from a wide range of disciplines and professional fields to undertake research relevant to the improvement of education. Fellowships range from 9 months to 24 months. These fellowships are not intended to finance data collection or the completion of doctoral coursework, but rather to support the final analysis of the research topic and the writing of the dissertation.  
Award Amount   Stipends of $25,000 per year. 
Disciplines   Open to all fields. As long as dissertation topic is relevant to education, in the broadest sense. 
Academic Level   Working on Doctoral Dissertation.  
Citizenship   No citizenship requirements.  
Requirements   All predissertation requirements must be completed before activation of award. Must be candidates for the doctoral degree at a graduate school within the U.S. Expect to complete the dissertation by the end of the 2-year award period. Proposed project must be an education research project. Dissertation abstract. Project description and work plan. Transcripts. 2 reference letters. Personal statement.
